what does the switch cut? the data cable or the power to the drive? If it's the power, cutting that abruptly can damage the drive and the data on it... but I think it may be okay to cut it if nothing is being written or read from to and from the drive.. I'm sure you know that but maybe a good plan to advise peeps who cop your piece of kit.

A small capacitor should work to slowly power down the HD so it won't stop so abruptly.
I was thinking about adding a "Kill switch" to my internal HD also but never got around to doing it.

yeah that is a smart idea man... I dont know personally since I dont have friends with the 4000 but how does it power off the hard drive? I hear it also has a button for that.

I don't know much about the MPC4000 but on my MV8000 it has a Shutdown button that powers down the internal HD before totally shutting off the unit.

yeah I got am mv also... but I heard the 4k has a button to just stop the hard drive.... not to power it down or anything or cut it off but just to stop it from making noise i guess in case you are recording in the same room or something.

you make some of the wackest "mods" just give it up and let pro's do that shit
