floppy swap on 2000?

so I am trying to switch floppy drives on my 2000 to see if that solves my boot problems.

I have the other floppy drive but where do I start unscrewing? the xl is kindof self explanatory but not the 2000. I took out the recessed screws and can slide the floppy out and make the 34 pin switch, but I cant slide it back in (cant fold the cable from the outside) or connect the 4 pin cable (it is too short). I figure I need to crack the whole thing open but which screw is which?

any help or nod in the right direction would be much appreciated. I did a search to no avail.

my fault can you elaborate? you mean just get to unscrewing?

You're in luck. i just did this to both of my 2000 classics. Its about a 10 minute surgery.
Im not sure how familiar you are with taking apart your mpc... so Ill put it in steps for you. Its not too hard.

Before you start make sure you touch something metal thats grounded to discharge any static in your body.

1. start to remove the front panel by unscrewing the screws on the underside of the mpc
2. remove the for large screws on the left and right side of the mpc (this should allow you to remove the front panel.)
3. remove the remaining screws on the back of the mpc and the ones that are normally covered by the front panel.
4. gently remove the top panel (the actual mpc casing.(you should now see the control board where the pad sensors are at and your buttons cursor, numeric buttons etc...)
5. there are 2 screws on the top of this board 1 is located near the data wheel and cursor the 2nd by the pads, and the 4 screws on the sides of the mpc.
6. your control board should now be loose. gently pull it up and disconnect the ribbon cable that connects to the mpc mainboard by pushing the 2 clamps one on each side outward, pull out the cable and set the main board aside in a safe place.
7. you now have full access to the floppy, disconnect the ribbon cable and power cable. it is held in the mpc by 4 screws on the bottom of the mpc.
8. install new floppy and follow directions in reverse to reassemble.

I checked my floppy drive before Icompletely reassembled the mpc to make sure it worked before i put it all back together only to find out I'd have to take it back apart...

ok I did it and it worked amazing. I even glued back the loose screen while I was at it.

for the next person that does this, #5 means the 2 RECESSED screws. (directly below the cursor buttons and bottom left of the pads; not the ones around the jog wheel) Other than that a trained monkey could do this.
