wondering how one might do this.

looked briefly into micro-tuning plugins that use specific pitchbend settings per note, but if anyone else has ideas please tell me. this might be the wrong place but it's worth a shot.

Just an idea: any vsti audio out into an effect channel with something like autotune. I dont use any of these tuning plugins so I dont know if they can be set to the "oriental pitch"

Another (but only monophon) way I can think of is to automaticly add a specific pitch bend value to each NOTE ON message (note number) that comes in. Probably something that could be done with an input transform function.

Other ways to do this off the top of my head:

Play the phrase with manual pitch shifting (takes practice but I've seen guys do this).

Set up your sample tunings and keymaps to play in the right scale.

Use a synth that supports other scales (Slim Phatty, some old Yamahas, GEM workstations, some professional arranger keyboards.

Real time pitch shifting?

Off-line editing. (not as fun but really sometimes only a couple notes need to be shifted)

there are hundreds of different scales out there. Obviously quarter tones are something western music scales lack, but can be implied using two octaves as well as methods above. Some synths can be a pain to program such scales, some easy as. depends on intervals of scale

What instrument are you trying to replicate?Sitar has the raised (moveable)frets to achieve the scales and bends. Also I remember reading about a your midi theremin post.Same tonal concept scale wise.

does a controller like the axis 64 have ability to trigger those notes? I dont know too much about that controller but it came to mind so maybe have a look at that.
