Turntable

I am about to purchase a gemini PT 1000 without a cartridge or stylus for $75 in perfect condition, Can anybody give me advice on what I should be looking for I was told an Ortofon Concorde Pro Cartridge and Stylus would be a good start . What do you guys think ?

Ortofon Arkiv or the Shure M44-7. Oh, and do a search next time! :wink:

depends on what you are using the deck for?

are you going to be doing any of the following?
scratching
sampling
listening


define which you are going to be using the deck most then tailor your needs around that. me i like to scratch a lot more than sampling or listening so i have qberts on mine.
the electros by ortofon are pretty decent and would somewhat meet in the middle of all of those needs.

Ortofon Arkiv i hear is great for recording/sampling but scratching or back cueing is highly NOT recommended.

or

Ortofon Nightclub-S has great sound and is good for very minimal scratching/back cueing.

You should just get the Shure M44-7, it's all-purpose. You can sample with it, and if you ever decide to expirement with scratching you can, compared to just having a cartridge that can only sample. If you can't back cue with the Arkiv that sucks. I'm not a DJ, but I'm assuming that back cueing is reversing the vinyl with your hand.

Yea thats what that means. The only reason why i didnt recommend the shures is because of record wear especially if scratching isn't his main purpose. Thats why i recommended those ortofons (nightclub and electro) less record wear and still decent for scratching.

I got the Shure m97xe just for sampling, and I ended up not using it too much, I use the M44-7s instead, even tho' they don't have the same sound (harsh highs and not very detailed, I have done some tests comparing them).

Because, when I sample I want to have a perfect signal, and if I'm sampling a kick or a snare, I like to just drag the record back about 5 times until I get the right level. I'm used to that, and straight up hated to lift the arm and placing it back and wait. And If there is a louder sound before the snare, it's going to give peak holds and it's hard to known how loud the sanre is. I want to check out the M44G version tho'.
