Hello all. I don't have a big budget at the moment and plan to just sample Vinyl for hip-hop records. I just want to find the cheapest, yet best quality for $100-200 range. Somebody please suggest one because all I'm going to be doing is sampling old vinyls. Thanks! :D

I don't think the turntable matters much, as long as you got a good needle

I suggest you get a cheap Stanton turntable, since they come with good cartridges and needles. Cheapest model is Stanton T.62. It comes with Stanton 500 V.3 cartridge. Price is around 200 in europe, maybe less in the us.

well, if you want my opinion I say technics 1200 :)

but in case you don't want to find one used, try getting a tt with a 'S' shaped arm because I hear those get better stereo balance or something (for example: numark tt1650)

pretty much any TT will do. I use an MMF at the crib and a Gemini in the studio. Both are using Shure needles:

At the end of the day the TT just makes it spin. The needle is the key. As far as sampling, stay away from portables, especially ones that have non-removable needles. Some will argue that they are fine and yea they get the job done, but I dont see the point in capturing bad versions of audio. Some cats say it gives it a lo-fi feel but theres a difference between lo-fi and poor quality audio IMO.

did the big "m44-7" on the front not give you a clue?

Actually, thats the name M44-7

Dont worry man, that was funny tho. But yea...Ive been using these needles religiously for a while. When combined with a clean record you hear music in its best form IMO. Theres times when I got my headphones on, and im looking for a sample and I just end up listening to the whole joint

What I would cop starting from scratch:

TT - from craigslist = ~$50
Cart - Grado Green = $80
Phono pre - NAD PP2 = $130
