It is you
The compression function is a sample rate reduction system.
Identical to the function on the MPC60.
The way it works ?
Original sample word locations:
1, 2, 3, 4 ,5 ,6 ,7, 8.
After compression:
1, 3, 5, 7.
IE: Half the samples. Hence a doubling in pitch.
Per the MPC60 manual for explanatory purposes.
The new Sound Compression feature squeezes any sound into ½ the memory space, at the expense of lower treble fidelity.
If all sounds in memory are compressed, this effectively doubles available sound memory.
The selected sound’s tuning is displayed in the TUNE field.
(This is the same parameter as in the EDIT SOUND screen.)
During the compression process, 120 is subtracted from the tuning in order to
compensate for the faster play of the smaller sound.
Since -120 is the lowest possible tuning, compression is only permitted on sounds with a
tuning of 0 or greater.
If your sound’s tuning is below 0, you must retune it to 0 before compressing.
After compression, save the sound to disk.
It’s a good idea to save it to a different file than the original uncompressed sound.
That way, you have the option of loading either the normal or compressed version of the
sound as needed.
If you are still stuck then ask again and I am sure one of the other users who uses this function regularly may reply with their own usage examples.
Thanks,
Rohan.
