creating basslines...

happy thanksgiving to y'all mpc heads.

just wondering how some of you go about creating your basslines for your tracks?
is there any other way besides using the low pass filters?

use the search function in production techniques for further details, but a few suggestions are:

mulitsampled bass (create them or buy them)

Using basschops (need to filter the sample most of the time)

Resample the low end (need to filter after resampling, eqing before sampling)

Get a synth/ hook up with software

Play bass with a bass guitar

Play bass with a upright bass

Or combine the techniques described above

Just summing up a few possibilities and it's up to them to search for further information or master the techniques by experimenting.
Keeps them bussy this winter cuz it is too cold to play outside.

This is just me, but I exclusively play my bass parts from the keyboard. Other than that, one of my bass playing friends might put it down if I happen to catch them at the right time.

Must be nice to have a buddy lay down some bass for you, even if it's every once in a while.

Yeah, they really owe me more on the favor end of things anyway, like staying up half the night hooking one of their outfits up for them or something technical. Or a cuz that plays bass, but you have to catch him at the right moment or state of mind in order to get something decent out of him.

one tip i picked up here for bass - use a single bass tone, play a few hits of it. assign the q-link slider to pitch and then to play the bass using the slider.

buy a sound module or a synth .. along with your sampling
capabilities .. the possibilities are endless

Download a bass test tone and sample it. I use synths (a flute mostly, has nice bass). I also have a bunch of bass samples.

Sample any sound with alot of low end and loop a small part of that even just one waveform so it sounds like a beep then pitch it way down.

I'm struggling with this right now. Trying to get the mpc 1000 to handle rhythm tracks and bassline at once. I sampled in all the bass pitches I need for the song, laid them out in pad Bank C. I had already made the bassline sequence in MIDI so loaded that into a sequence to play the pads. So then I had to alter the MIDI note assignments in the Bass Bank C to match the MIDI pitch in the sequencer track and that's got me in some trouble because now the MIDI note assignments in Bank C are the same as some pads in Bank A (or B or D) where I've got percussion samples assigned and instead of the bass it triggers a hihat or something, so then I adjusted those offending MIDI note assignments in Bank A to be higher than GM2 drum (a tedious little piece of work) and got my bassline playing alone. But, no, when I started adding other tracks playing instruments (pad assignments) in Banks D and C they wouldn't play back right because their MIDI note assignments were coincidental with ones I had changed earlier. Weird and confusing little mess. So now I'm thinking I have to go through all the MIDI note assignments and make sure they are all unique. Which probably can be done.

Or maybe just trigger an external sound module.

Well it turns out that's pretty easy actually. In program mode, when in the note assignment page, there's an asterisk (*) next to notes that are not unique, so you just spin around the data wheel 'til you find a note number that's not taken. Now it works fine. Any body else working this way?

still probably get a sound module going....
